On our third day we drove to Tagatay in southern Luzon and is known as the second summer vacation capital of the Philippines (first is Bagio). We had lunch at Leslie’s Restaurant that was built along a cliff. Little Bahay Kubo’s served as dining areas for small groups. The view was the Taal Volcano. That night we stayed at the Taal Vista Lodge where Tom and I partook in our second Spa visit since arriving four days ago.
The following morning we decided to take a day trip to Calamba Laguna, home of the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. Once we arrived in the town our driver began asking people where Rizal Park was. We asked about 7 different people all of whom gave us these perplexed looks yet continued to tell us where to go. No one gave street names (very Filipino). Everyone just told us to look for the big pot. After driving by numerous big pots, we arrived at THE big pot and to our left was the National Hero’s childhood home and museum…CLOSED for Independence day….sheesh….
